There are 50 Challenge Coin Collectors Box sets in this 1st Edition run.This attractive Limited Edition Challenge Coin Collectors Box set was designed in house by Sean Curtis whose own military career spanned a 4 decade period with the Irish Army.The face of each Challenge Coin is a representation of the Defence Forces Badge, while the reverse shows the different Corps badges and branches of the Defence Forces.The set of 13 Challenge Coins are held in an engraved and numbered, rosewood box, which features a glass lid and magnetic closure.The Challenge coins themselves have been meticulously crafted with a simple but respectful antique finish, and as an added bonus are thick enough to allow for engraving around the edge.The Corps featured are Artillery, CIS, Políní Arma, Cavalry, Engineering, Medical, Ordnance, the School of Music, and finally a special Challenge coin which commemorates the Defence Forces contribution to United Nations overseas Missions.

A challenge coin has been part of military history since the time of the Roman Army. Traditionally they have been awarded to soldiers as recognition of their achievements and membership to individual units.
The challenge coin became popularized during World War 1 by American fighter Pilots. It has become tradition to carry the challenge coin of your unit or branch of service while serving in military forces worldwide. The challenge coin has also become extremely popular as an item for trade between soldiers and as collectibles.
These coins are 40mm x 5mm and a common style features though the Family.While Pewter in colour they are manufactured from a hard metal that has a antique finish.They all feature on one side a representation of the Defence Forces Badge and on the other a corps or branch motif.The coins are approximately 5mm thick to allow for engraving around the edge of an individual number, rank and name.Special coins can be designed at a reasonable cost, but a minimum order of 50 will apply.
These coins are available at a price of €9.00 each or as a set of 12 for €99.00, plus postage.ProTac have produced a range of 12 Challenge coins for the different branches of the Irish Defence Forces.
